Case Study: Finding the Right Seat at the Table.

  • Case Study

Kate Hackett, Head of Clinical Practice, Bright Futures

The Challenge

After stepping into a more senior role as Development Director, Kate found herself increasingly disconnected from the parts of her work that mattered most to her.

The role demanded a more corporate, directive focus, pulling her away from clinical practice, values-led work and direct impact.

Through this transition, Kate began to question whether she truly belonged at the senior table, experiencing imposter syndrome despite being a highly respected and trusted member of the Bright Futures leadership team.

Kate wasn’t failing. She was simply in the wrong seat. She felt caught between an expected career ladder and what genuinely energised her, aligned with her values, and gave her a sense of purpose.

The Solution

Working with David, Kate undertook a coaching journey centred on:

  • Clarifying her core personal values
  • Exploring and redefining her leadership identity and personal brand
  • Building comfort with vulnerability and self-belief
  • Reframing what “seniority” and “success” looked like for her

This wasn’t about pushing Kate to become more corporate, it was about helping her become more herself.

The Outcome

Kate emerged with:

  • A stronger sense of identity and confidence
  • Greater comfort with vulnerability and authenticity
  • Clarity around her true purpose and strengths
  • A renewed focus on clinical leadership and support, rather than corporate directorship
  • A deeper understanding of how to work with different personalities and leadership styles

Most importantly, Bright Futures retained a brilliant leader, repositioned into the right role, not lost to another organisation.

Kate found her place. The right place.

What Kate Says

“I hadn’t experienced coaching previously so was unsure what to expect, but having someone external to my organisation was incredibly beneficial. I had an instant connection with David,  his approach made me feel comfortable and supported from the first session.”

“Whilst the coaching started in a work capacity, David encouraged me to consider all aspects of life, which influenced both my professional and personal decisions. He quickly learnt how to get the most from me and wasn’t afraid to think outside the box.

Our walking and talking sessions were especially reflective and thought-provoking.”

“David supported me to adapt my objectives as priorities changed and helped me focus on realistic goals. I would definitely recommend him, I imagine he’d be everyone’s cup of tea.”
